What's the Big Deal About Being Independent?

Being independent in the funeral trade means that a funeral director is solely owned by the family name above the door and not a large corporation or conglomerate with boards of directors dictating procedure from afar.

How does this relate to the service supplied to you?
Independent funeral directors feel that they can offer a more personal service to the local community in which they too reside. As independent funeral directors we pride ourselves in our ability to serve our own community as a part of the community.

Some large international corporations in the early and mid nineties purchased many independent family funeral directors, maintaining the family name, thus deceiving the general public.

In an attempt to improve the awareness of independent funeral directors to the public and to strive for improved services, many independents formed a trade association solely for the independent funeral director, this association was named SAIF : Society for Allied Independent Funeral directors.
